Our Civil War

The insurrection that began on January 6, 2021 is not over.

Nor did it happen spontaneously. It was, as Adam Kinsinger has stated, “the inevitable outcome of lies repeated so often they began to feel like truth.”

Nor was it without precedence, or accidental that the rioters were mostly white men often carrying Confederate flags. It was, and remains, the civil war of our time.

In 2020 Trump asked Georgia secretary of state Brad Raffensperger to “find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have.”

Then on July 1, 2024, the shameful Supreme Court decided that Trump, as president has “absolute immunity” from criminal prosecution.

Today, we stand at a precipice. If we stand for democracy over tyranny, we must demand an end to this presidency. Protest by protest. Boycott by boycott. Step by step. Until one voice becomes 20-30-50 millions voices.

We the people will not be silent until Donald J. Trump is impeached and brought to justice.

I chose an image by Mel D. Cole, one of the few Black photographers there. I have often wondered how he found the courage to face this sea of angry white men.
